I’ve been meaning to stop at The Taco Stop. After all, it comes highly recommended by someone who knows his stuff, Paul of Matador Mexican Grill.
Our house is being re-roofed this week and so I was chased out of the house by the sounds of hammering. Our poor cat won’t come out from under the bed, and if I thought the dog was clingy before, she’s now always underfoot.
So, I went in search of solace and tacos. After all, it’s Taco Tuesday! I was going to write about a place in my hometown of Loveland. However, I struck out twice. The taco joint I intended to go to is located inside of a 7-11. It’s not really an eatery. I guess that’s why I hadn’t heard about it.
The second place I tried only had hard tacos. That’s a big no, no for me. I don’t care if hard shells are an option but if it’s all you’ve got, I know I will have problems with this particular spot. So, I headed north and I’m really glad that I did.
The Taco Stop is located in that odd area between Loveland and Fort Collins along Hwy 287. It used to be full of antique stores, and a few still remain. However, it’s mostly spa dealerships and other non-descript strip mall businesses. Also, check out Deli Works, also located in this strip and well worth finding.

The Taco Stop has a gluttonous Taco Tuesday deal. When you order three tacos (the size of their taco meal), you get an extra taco for free. This meant I had a lot of food. That’s 8 soft taco tortillas (two on each taco). I feel kind of bad but not really bad.
At The Taco Stop, there is also a large bar with several televisions showing… wait for it… SOCCER! I am a total soccer nerd. We were season ticket holders to the Colorado Rapids for a number of years. Ole, ole, ole, ole! They are in the playoffs right now! Go Rapids!
I ordered a pastor taco, Asada taco, and chicken taco, but I got a carnitas taco for free. The last couple of carnitas tacos I’d eaten were bland. I am SO GLAD that I got a free carnitas taco!
The Taco Stop has lots of salsa options, and I chose Diablo because it was on the hot side, but not the habanero. Lately, I have not cared for the flavor of habaneros.
Of the four tacos I tried here, the carnitas was my favorite. The meat was flavorful and moist. Sometimes pulled meat is dry, but this definitely was not. In fact, I would have been perfectly happy with four carnitas tacos!
This isn’t the cheapest or most expensive place. Three tacos are $10.99. They have lots of other menu items including a Pepito Sandwich which I have to have. A Pepito Sandwich is like a torta.
Again, I have to take Ryan here! That list is growing.

Until then, eat all the carnitas! Happy Taco Tuesday!
